Studio Visit | Jordan Rondel, The Caker

We celebrate the woman behind the cake that's on everybody's lips...

The beautiful woman behind The Caker, Jordan Rondel, has been part of the Tessuti family for some years now, firstly as a wonderful retail helper on her school holidays, and nowadays as one of our most cherished local bakers.

Having started The Caker six years ago, it is safe to say that Jordan has made her fair share of cakes. Jordan, along with the help of her sister Anouk, bakes, decorates and delivers cakes all day everyday. That's some very sweet action in the kitchen. And when she needs some time away from the heat of the baking trays, Jordan travels to Paris and New York to indulge in mouthfuls of inspiration. Literally eating her way through hard-to-find patisseries and classic sweet American pies.

We recently spent an afternoon with Jordan: a fleeting visit at her Ponsonby-based home before driving back to the The Caker kitchen on Karangahape Road to prepare one last cake order for the day!

Once the icing was smoothed, the fresh flowers had been arranged, and the courier was booked, we treated Jordan and Anouk to happy hour at their favourite local jaunt Coco's Cantina. Post kingfish and ravioli, Jordan, having already lovingly baked cakes all day, claimed the Italian dessert was a must! Thus confirming her devotion and passion for indulging in anything sweet, vibrant and uplifting — just like the maker herself.
