Last week, we were lucky enough to visit the store and studio of Nelson-based jeweller Louise Douglas, who has been with Tessuti for nearly as long as we have! Spending a few hours watching her turn moulds and metals into mystic and magic, we oohed and ah-ed over her beautifully delicate, however remarkably robust, creations.

Currently working on a small range called Rock Pool - a result of Louise Douglas' love for the miniature ocean treasure found in New Zealand's natural tidal pools, the collection references baby starfish, pearl embellished kina’s, and crab claw motifs.

“I always loved exploring rock pools as a child. The glistening pools of water among the exposed rocks, create a haven between the tides for small colourful sea creatures and plant life. Tiny worlds exist, with their appropriately sized fish, crabs, sea anemones, seaweeds, and barnacles. The endless patterns made by sea life on the rocks, all their forms and textures are so unique, interesting and beautiful. I hope this collection will inspire people to admire and protect the delights that hide on our native shorelines."

Located on Nile Street, the Louise Douglas Jewellery studio is as warm and lovely as its occupants. If you're heading down to Nelson, pop in and say hello from us! I am sure Louise and her wonderful assistant Sarah would love to meet the extended Tessuti family. And if you're lucky, you'll get to meet their curly black haired (and very smoochy) four legged companion Daisy!

Louise Douglas' Rock Pool collection will be available at Tessuti very soon...
