Studio + Home Visit — Joanna Campbell
Thrilled to be inviting yet another wonderful maker into our store, we visited Joanna's home in Titirangi of which she shares with her son Juno.
A lover of colour and texture, Joanna's home is warmed in Mexican lanterns, crocheted cushions, and hand-blown glass. The ceiling is dotted with Juno's paper cranes and cut-out lanterns, shelves are lined with art works from local artisan friends — most of which were trades, and black and white photos line the hallway offering up beautiful family history and holiday stories.
Behind the house, Joanna has converted her double garage into a working studio space, open to fruit trees and the neighbouring creek, fit with industrial machinery and tools, metal sheets and, in contrast, boxes of lace trimmings. Instantly drawn to these, Joanna is eager to show us through her collection of vintage French lace and rare, delicate cuttings. It is this very combination of elements that drive her concept — to create jewellery that focuses on making metal appear soft, even fluid.
